"Rare NBA Footage" YouTube Channel Shows Some Old Floors

I recently came upon the "Rare NBA Footage" YouTube channel (which also includes the old ABA). The site contains a large number of videos, some going back to the 1950s, which allows viewers to see what some old floors looked like. Meant in no way as a criticism of the site, I would say there are a few limitations in what we can learn about old-time floor designs:

  • Many of the videos are only around 10 seconds long.
  • Many are in black and white.
  • Most of the NBA court designs were very basic in the 1950s through 1970s, although the ABA floors had more going on. Remember that the NBA did not have a three-point shot back then, so the courts featured only the two rectangular keys (usually painted in solid color) and a center-court circle with little or nothing in the way of logos.
Still, as a source of historical artifacts, Rare NBA Footage is a valuable resource.
